My personal approach to translation
Business English
Sometimes I feel, that business English is a separate language. It consists of idioms, cliché, specific grammar constructions. Changes take place in business English rarely, so an ordinary interpreter, who doesn’t work with business documentation, certainly will find lot’s of difficulties translating a simple enquiry or order.
After I have graduated from university, I work as a foreign-trade manager in Promsplav Ltd. I’m also responsible for translation of the business documentation (ex. Contracts, letters, enquires, orders, invoices etc.), so I can provide a quality translation of your documents.
Informal English
I always try to train different types of language in order to make my speech/translation more flexible and appropriate for each situation. Before starting a translation I ask myself, what do I need to receive as a result? Should the translated text be an official one or informal one, should I use technical/economic/juristic terms, who will be a primary reader.
F. ex., teenagers won’t read an entertaining article, written in formal language that is why informal English is also must be learned by an interpreter.
I should thank my English speaking friends; their letters help me to understand not only informal language but also throw light on the life of modern American youth.
Literary English
I’m not going to advertise myself, telling that I’m a gifted person and good at translating poems into English :) The process of learning foreign language is impossible without reading books in the original for me. English literature is a real treasure, everyone can find here something to suit one’s taste. Jane Austin, William Shakespeare, Charlotte Bronte, Edgar Allan Poe, Theodore Dreiser, John Galsworthy, O. Henry, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie – seems, I can speak of my favorite writers endlessly. Also I enjoy writing verses in English, so I don’t think, I can find any difficulties translating a novel, essay or book review.
Technical English
Information systems subject is for sure my biggest hobby, my love and (I hope) my future job. The knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP allows me to say with confidence – I can and I’m good at translating texts in technical English as well as in script, website, template, CMS translation.
Do you need any proofs? Just look at translated text in my “examples” section. Actually, this website is a good proof itself – I’ve made it by myself :)
